How to migrate from SEO Ultimate to Yoast SEO
Here is a guide how to migrate your website from using SEO Ultimate to begin using Yoast SEO instead.
Every SEO plugin for WordPress has its pros and cons. Over here, I wrote a comparison between the plugins SEO Ultimate and Yoast SEO.
Today I noticed that I had forgotten to submit an XML sitemap to Google. When I realized that SEO Ultimate did not include a function to create an xml sitemap, I decided to migrate to Yoast SEO.
Unfortunately, Yoast’s import tool does not provide the possibility to import from SEO Ultimate. So here’s what you need to do:
How to migrate from SEO Ultimate to Yoast SEO step by step
1. Install Yoast SEO
First you need to install Yoast SEO. Go to the menu Plugins > Add new, and type Yoast into the search field. Find Yoast SEO in the search result and click Install. Wait a few moments and then click Activate.
2. Install SEO Data Transporter
Go to menu Plugins > Add new, and type SEO Data Transporter into the search field. Find SEO Data Transporter in the search result and click Install. Wait a few moments and then click Activate.
3. Migrate the SEO data
Go to the menu Tools and click Convert SEO Data.
4. Choose platform to migrate from
Click the first dropdown menu that says Choose platform, scroll down and find SEO Ultimate close to the bottom. Choose it.
5. Choose platform to migrate to
Click the second dropdown menu that says Choose platform, scroll down and find Yoast SEO close to the bottom. Choose it.
6. Click convert
Now click the button Convert. Please note: Nothing big happens on the screen. What just happened is shown above the form:
For me, 302 records were updated – imported from SEO Ultimate to Yoast SEO.
7. Authenticate with Google Search Console
One thing that you need to do manually after the import, is to authenticate your site with Google Search Console, since that data is not transported in the migration.
Go to the menu SEO > Search Console, and follow the instructions to authenticate your site with Google Search Console.
That’s it – you’re done migrating your site and now you can uninstall the plugins SEO Ultimate and SEO Data Transporter.
Of course, there are a few features in Yoast that you should set up now, but that is for another guide 🙂
Hope this helped you!
